Application for a Community residence card

This form is used to process the residency card for European Union citizens and those of non-Member states forming part of the European Economic Area (EEA) and of the Swiss Confederation.

The following documents must be attached to this application form:

In the case of Community residents:

  • Original and photocopy of valid passport or identity card.
  • If relevant, original and photocopy of the previous card in the case of renewal.

If application is for a family member of a Community resident, the original and photocopy of the following documents must be submitted:

  • Valid passport; in the event that the latter has expired, document proving that it is in the process of being renewed.
  • Literal updated marriage certificate in the case of a marriage celebrated in Spain or with a person of Spanish nationality. The said certificate must be legalised or have the Hague Apostille if the marriage took place in a foreign country with a non-national Community citizen.
  • Birth certificate, legalised or with the Hague Apostille, and translated.
  • DNI (national identity card) of the spouse, parent or family member exercising his/her right to family reunification.
  • Passport or identity card of the citizen exercising his/her right to family reunification.
  • Residence card of the spouse or relative in the ascending or descending line exercising his/her right to family reunification.
  • Previous card.
  • Certification of registration at local Town Hall in Spain of the family member exercising his/her right to family reunification.
  • Cohabitation certificate and proof of provision of economic support (for relatives in the ascending line –father or mother- and children over the age of 21.
  • In the case of minors, when the child is the offspring of only one of the spouses, proof must also be submitted showing that the said spouse has sole parental authority or custody of the child and that the latter is indeed under his/her tutelage. 
  • In the case of marriage to a non-Spanish Community citizen, declaration that the couple is still married and not separated or divorced, according to the attached model.

Application submission

The application may be submitted at the Alien Office itself or in accordance with the proceedings laid down in Art. 38.4 of the Public Administrations (legal regime) and Common Administrative Procedure Act, Law 30/1992 of 26 November.

  • Royal Decree 178/2003 of 14 February (BOE 22.02.03) on the entry and permanence in Spain of nationals from European Union Member States and from other States party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area.
  • As a subsidiary and complementary regulation, the current wording of Organic Law 4/2000 of 11 January (BOE - Official State Gazette 12.01.00) on the rights and freedoms of aliens in Spain and their social integration.
