Residence visa application for family reunification

This form is used to request reunification of the family members of a resident in Spain.

The following documentation must accompany this application:

  • Original and a photocopy of the petitioner’s valid passport or certificate of inscription.
  • Original and a photocopy of the residence or work and residence permit which has been renewed or concerning which a renewal has been requested.
  • Photocopy of the reunification passport.
  • Original and a photocopy of proof of employment and/or sufficient economic resources to meet family needs, including health-care, in the event that they are not covered by Social Security. To this end, the sponsor must furnish the original and a photocopy of the following documents depending upon his/her labour situation.

Sponsor with salaried employment

  • The three latest pay slips.
  • Personal income tax return corresponding to the previous year.
  • Proof of affiliation in the Social Security health-care assistance system including beneficiaries (health-care card).

Domestic employment regime

In addition to the documentation required under the general regime:

  • Income directly deposited in the bank.
  • Monetary remittances sent to family members awaiting reunification.

Self-employed sponsors

  • Supporting documents proving the last three payments of autonomous worker dues.
  • Personal income tax return corresponding to the previous year.
  • Proof of affiliation in the Social Security health-care assistance system including beneficiaries (health-care card).
  • Tax form 130 IRPF (tax return by modular system) or tax form 131 IRPF (tax return by coefficient system).

Reunification in the absence of labour activity

  • Personal income tax return corresponding to the previous year.
  • Proof of affiliation in the Social Security health-care assistance system including beneficiaries (health-care card).
  • Proof of income: Pensions, benefits, subsidies, rental income, etc.
  • Proof of the availability of a home able to accommodate the sponsor and his/her family. This requirement must be satisfied with a report issued by the local administration of the sponsor’s place of residence.

Within a maximum of fifteen days from the time the request is filed, the local administration must issue this report and notify the interested party and, when possible, simultaneously forward the report on-line to the competent authority responsible for the reunification authorisation.

Alternatively, if the local administration fails to issue the housing availability report within the time frame indicated, the requirement may be fulfilled by means of a notary’s attestation stating that a person was present, accredited by means of a copy of the request filed.

In any case, the report or notary’s certificate must make reference to the following details:

  • Certificate of habitability, number of rooms, use made of each of the rooms of the house, number of occupants and living conditions and equipment.
  • Photocopy of the support documentation showing family ties, duly translated if relevant.
  • In the case of children of only one of the spouses, proof must also be submitted showing that the sponsor has sole parental authority or custody of the child and that the latter is indeed under his/her tutelage. In the case of adopted children, proof must be provided that the judicial decision approving the adoption meets all requirements for recognition in Spain.
  • In the case of spouses, a signed statement to the effect that no other spouse resides with the sponsor in Spain.
  • In the case of relatives in the ascending line, support documentation showing that during the sponsor’s last year of residence in Spain, he/she sent remittances or covered expenditures incurred by the said family member in a proportion indicating effective economic dependence.

Authorisation renewal 

  • Original and a photocopy of a valid passport.
  • Original and photocopy of the petitioner’s previous residence permit.
  • Proof of employment and/or sufficient economic resources to meet family needs.
  • If he/she works: copy of work and residence permit
  • If he/she does not work: copy of the residence permit and proof of income (pension, benefits, subsidies, rental income, etc.).
  • Proof of health-care assistance coverage.
  • In the case of spouses: declaration of intention to remain married (according to the form).
  • In the case of older children: certificate attesting to registration at local Town Hall showing that they live at the same domicile.
  • In the case of relatives in the ascending line, a cohabitation certificate and documentation proving that they depend on the sponsor for economic support.
